My name is Facundo Carriazo, better known artistically as Cacique (which means “Indian chief”). I´m a comic-book penciler, inker and writer, and sometimes a sculptor. Since I was a boy I felt attracted to superheroes: comic-books, cartoons, video-games, movies and, of course, action-figures. The materializing of the fanatism towards superheroes gains form in the action-figures, the tangible object that brings us the ability to possess and manipulate our favourite characters, to create, and through them perform, our own stories. Throughout history there`s been better and better action-figure lines, with more quality, articulation, and sculpting. To us, the inhabitants of the Third World, the access to such action-figures was always limited, because of the costs, or by the simple inexistence of original and quality figures, we live in the paradise of bootleg toys. And we can only acquire lower quality figures, at the price of the originals (it`s very common to find an action-figure pack formed by Batman, Wolverine, Shrek, Buzz Lightyear and a Power Ranger).

I`m not ashamed to tell that I started my artistic activity by creating my own action figures, made of paper, when I was very very young, absolutely flat and bidimensional figures, with the front and the rear drawn, but, obviously without any depth. In time, I met the wonderful art of sculpture, that, even when it brings us tridimensionality, it takes too much time, and it`s expensive when it`s done properly. Then I met Pepakura or Paperkraft, where very talented artists or even advanced computer programs give us the possibility to recreate our favourite characters in three dimensions. The thing is, although there are many different levels of difficulty in the making of paperkraft figures, and those with more patience and skill can create characters of almost cinematographic quality, there`s still an enormous gap in the quality between basic and complex figures. With this in mind, and trusting in my artistic abilities, I`ve decided to create a true Intermediate Level where I try to reach the highest level of anatomic and proportions rightness, with the less amount of pieces possible, where also the quality of the art helps us to simulate forms that the folding and gluing don`t let us reach. Months and months of researching and making prototypes took me to the point where I feel satisfied with the results.

These models aren`t, under any circumstances, the best that can be found on the web, but they are models that can be built by the most of the people, any adult without artistic skills can, in less than two hours, make an action-figure for his child, in case the child himself couldn`t do it.
