CRYPTONAUTS STORY
From it’s inception at an art show “CryptoZoo” back in 2006, Cryptonauts.com has become the seedbed for fun plushie cuddly monsters which have cultural references of asian and mexican ritualistic and pop expressionism. Having been born in Mexico and raised in both Texas and Hawaii, Aaron’s work is largely influenced by his childhood experiences. From playing with mexican wresting dolls, toy monsters, and always looking through the glass case of his mothers geisha dolls, Aaron has been crafting his vision of hidden meanings through plushie toys ever since he stitched his first cryptonaut.
“The reason I sew and make stuffed creatures is to create work that stimulates one’s cherished childhood experiences. A time when our innocence was untouched by the stresses of an adult life.”
Aaron is grateful to be collaborating with crews such as Pocket Full of Monsters, Ground Up Pirates, Honolulu Art Collective, Prototype, and Exclusive Hawaii. He also creates his own crypto-projects to collaborate with other artists as well as the general public.
